Cable Trouble Already

Charter Communications ISP is having troubles of late. Last weekend my 5 Mbps connection was only able to muster a mere 680 Kbps download rate and the upload was at times as low as 10 Kbps. This severely sux0rs. Reports are that they are having serious problems with their head end systems. (Problem resolved: nic failing, Resolution: $15 nic. This really pissed me off, because Charter blamed everything from their own servers to apartment wiring before I found this out myself by connecting my son’s laptop and finding out it worked just fine.)

DSL Connection snafu worked out.
My old Westell Wirespeed 35R-516 DSL modem had decided to die (most likely on the day of service disconnection. Coincidence?).
Replaced the Wirespeed with an Efficient Networks Speedstream 5100, switching from pppoe to DHCP.

The phone is working but the DSL isn’t. I spend the entire week, calling SBC each day, trying to discover the problem.

While moving to another apartment, I lost my DSL connection due to mis-communication with Ameren UE Connections Service.
Seems they couldn’t understand the words “Don’t disconnect old residence before connecting the new residence.”
